Forrest Gump is back in stunning 4K Ultra HD. What isn’t there to love about this classic? Gump (Tom Hanks) lives a life consisting of some of the most interesting events in the United States during the second half of the 20th century.
Gump is involved with teaching Elvis his hound dog dance, meets JFK, plays football at Alabama, is in the Vietnam War, meets John Lennon, at the Watergate Hotel during the scandal, invests in Apple and meets up with his favorite girl in the world, Jenny, after she was one of the first people to contract AIDS. Being able to incorporate all these things into one man’s life is incredibly difficult, but the movie makes it feel seamless and possible that one guy could’ve done all that.
The love story between Gump and Jenny is one that warms the heart. As kids, they were best friends. Then, Jenny makes some questionable decisions that lead her away from Gump. But after all the time they spend apart, Gump still loves her and lives his entire life for her.
This edition includes over two hours of bonus features that will keep anyone from first-time watchers to die-hard Forrest Gump entertained and will teach everyone something they don’t know about the movie.
While I’m not usually one to get deep into the audio specs of a movie, I noticed that this edition had some of the clearest audio I’ve ever heard. When Gump’s on the shrimp boat, the storm sounds like you are inside of it.
This is a movie that has aged very well, and while I wasn’t around to watch it during it’s original run in theaters, it feels like during today’s political climate, this movie about a simple man living his best life, doing things that make him happy, carries a meaning as deep as ever before.
