Fortnite: Battle Royale is such a fun experience on computer and consoles, now it is here for mobile. The groundbreaking, super popular game is great for Playstation, Xbox, PC, and Mac, but it is just alright when playing on phone or tablet. Playstation 4 and Xbox One already have a hard time running the game compared to PC, putting it now on IOS is not going to do the game any justice. Essentially there is a huge drop off when you play on an iPhone/iPad. The mobile version does not offer any surprises, you pretty much know what you are going to get.
The hardest part of playing on mobile is figuring out the building. Building is such an essential part of the game and you to be able to build well to secure a victory royale. I played on iPad, and my first match was a hot mess. I landed with others at the prison and could not protect myself by building. Immediately, I was shredded. The interface is not unfriendly it is just par.
The graphics are not so hot. It looked like I was playing the original Tomb Raider from PS1 on my phone. If you stand still, you can see the pixelation on the side of your character and along the grass. The regular version of Fortnite looks beautiful and even better since the graphics update. Clearly, the mobile version needs that as well.
As far as gameplay goes, it is what it is. No different from what the regular version gives us. It is more difficult to use, that is for sure. It is very nice that they don’t do cross platform because if that was the case, everyone on mobile would get wrecked.
Fortnite was not made to be played on mobile, and it really shouldn’t. Play it on a system like everyone else and you will not be let down. I, previously, had reviewed the regular version and I cannot say any more great things about the game. I play it more than any other game I own, as of this moment. With that being said, I will not be using the mobile version after my lackluster experience.
