The EscapeCapsule isn’t like water resistant cases that you’ve seen before. This little ditty is water PROOF. There’s a huge difference. Because EscapeCapsule is fully covered and sealed, it’s engineered to save your phone from water damage whether you get caught in the rain, the snow, or the pool. If you’re out for a day hike or a day at the beach you can keep your phone dry and your warranty in tact with this great case. That’s because EscapeCapsule is tested to be water proof at up to 2 meters (about 6.5 feet). While this isn’t going to take you SCUBA diving with your phone, this will help you survive a full submersion should you slip or be pushed into the water!
Nearly Fully Functionality
What makes EscapeCapsule unique is that it allows your phone to remain functional while stored inside. You can still talk on your phone because of a special membrane which lets sound pass through but keeps water out. You can also interact with the touch screen, so if you’re under water and feel like playing a game or sending a text message… now you can (not that you should.) While I found this to be a really great feature, the sound quality of your calls is significantly reduced.
A Few Drawbacks
Don’t expect to leave this case on your phone, this is for specific times when you know you’ll want the waterproof attributes of the case. You have to thoroughly check the seal and test the case before each use. You also lose access to the charging port on the bottom of the phone in the interest of sealing up all possible entry points as tight as possible. One drawback I found is that while you do have a port to open access to the headphone jack, this compromises the water proof nature of the case. Other cases I’ve seen have workarounds for this issue, but they also make the cases much bulkier, so there is a definite trade off.
Case Construction
The body is made from a high impact resistant clear polycarbonate plastic. You get both water protection and drop protection from one case while still showing off your phone in style. Since the case is clear, you can also take pictures and videos under water, or anywhere else that you might have previously been nervous to take pictures.
Recently I went to Jamaica and wasn’t afraid to take my iPhone with me because I also took EscapeCapsule with me. Beaches, oceans, rainstorms and waterfalls, I always had my iPhone with me and I always felt safe using it in environments much wetter that my home in Kentucky (a land locked state).
The Final Say
The peace of mind I had while carrying my phone in my EscapeCapsule is well worth the cost even if I never get the phone wet! The fact that I can use my iPhone to take pictures at water parks, under water, and when I’m out hiking or camping is wonderfully convenient!
