In this fourth installment of the series, we get a better glimpse into Hei’s not-so-complete lack of emotions, as well as glimpse at the untold number of Contractors we haven’t seen yet. The amber-eyed blonde attempting to entice Hei into joining her organization (which is apparently completely opposite the Organization Hei works for) seems to know something about Hei’s sister’s disappearance, but so far, she’s not telling. What exactly does their past relationship entail, and did it begin before or after each gained Contractor abilities?
Also, though dolls are used by the various alliances and organizations, the average person, or even the average mob inductee, can still see them as human. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the doll can recognize emotions directed at her, but appreciation can be expressed in many ways.
As the series progresses towards it’s inevitable end, the myriad points of view offered by each character do wonders to flesh out the reality of this world, and the art is still fantastic. Brilliant voice acting and music by Yoko Kanno make an aspiring classic-to-be and instant must-own. Still, the setting of this series is so in-depth, I’d recommend picking up the entire set rather than attempt to go it alone with one disc.
Do what the smart kids do, and either collect the whole thing, or beg Funimation for a fancy box set. Packed with action and intrigue, mystery and myth, this series is worth anything they ask.
