“Season Six brings the Legends their most bizarre challenge yet. After a decadent night celebrating their victory over the Fates, they discover that Sara Lance has been abducted by aliens. Desperate to find her, Ava Sharpe sends Mick Rory and Behrad Tarazi to recruit a new Legend: a gun-totin’ Texan with special powers named Esperanza “Spooner” Cruz. Elsewhere, Gary Green has been keeping a secret, Nate Heywood and Zari Tarazi must work together to avert a nuclear disaster, and an argument between John Constantine and Astra Logue leads to unforeseen consequences. Join the galaxy’s wildest misfit heroes as they cross paths with David Bowie, Spartacus, Amelia Earhart, Fidel Castro, and John F. Kennedy over 15 riveting episodes.”

I’ve honestly not been a fan of the CW’s DC Television shows. With fresher and bolder content out there from DC, like Doom Patrol, these shows have a small market to cater to a younger audience that quickly outgrows them. That being said, when Legends of Tomorrow first aired, I kept up with it. It did seem like it was going to be a departure from the ‘teen drama’ feel of The Flash and other similar shows. A show about heroes and villains alike coming together in order to save the world. Seemed like a good pitch, as it had lesser-known characters that were thrown together in a time travel story, and it saw the return of the duo Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. While it had an interesting premise, the myriad of characters that they kept introducing felt a little overwhelming, as some of that ‘teen drama’ writing became more and more prevalent until I finally gave up on the show. Five seasons later, the show seems to have changed significantly.

The majority of these changes relate to the casting. There’s nary a recognizable face save for one or two people, and it seems the tone of the show has changed drastically to include elements not just related to time-travel any longer, but magic, aliens, demons, etc., which has really changed the tone of everything. It doesn’t seem like the Sci-Fi superhero show I started with, but has evolved simply to fit the introduction of characters that span across the entire DC Universe, and characters that faced cancelation that have no where else to turn. It is an admirable practice, giving characters who deserved a second chance a home, like John Constantine, but it just doesn’t make sense sometimes, like why Spartacus might be on an alien ship, just so we can be introduced to the character. While the time-traveling aspect can still be fun, it’s riddled with so many other elements that everything becomes so muddled.

For those that have stuck through it from the beginning and are able to follow and enjoy the show, I applaud you. Like I said, there are elements that I like to it, but it didn’t look like the core reasons I stopped watching the show had changed in five seasons, but only got worse. Now on its seventh season, the show doesn’t show any signs of stopping, and for the fans, that’s always a good thing.

Here’s an episode breakdown of the Blu-ray set:

Disc One:

  1. Ground Control to Sara Lance – The Legends go looking for Sara, who has been abducted by aliens.
  2. Meat: The Legends – Sara and Gary crash-land and meet an unexpected ally. Meanwhile, the Legends track an alien to a burger joint in 1955 San Bernadino.
