In this third volume of the series, we get a closer look at some of the larger mysteries and stereotypes of the largely invisible underworld. Can the Hell Gate really have such strange and varied effects on the lifeforms that enter it? Do Dolls really lose all sense of self and free will, doomed forever to follow the orders of whoever has taken charge of their care? What exactly is so great about this Meteor Fragment, found inside the Gate and coveted by many different and opposing agencies?
Despite containing a measly four episodes, this disc manages to go straight for the throat and offer huge insights into the commonly held beliefs about both Contractors and Dolls. Hei accepts a job that closely follows his own chosen task of finding his sister, missing since the Gate opened. He must go undercover on a job with the PANDORA (Physicalquantity Alteration Natural Deconstruction Research Agency) facility located on the very edge of the Gate, and outside the city wall. While there, he must attempt to recover the Meteor Fragment, but who can resist an opportunity to see the real stars? His ability to blend in with regular people will be tested to the limit, as the Gate’s close proximity starts to wreak havoc on others at the facility, causing them to hallucinate and be affected by unseen forces. If his humanity is only an act, why bother being kind, or advising others on their own safety?
Yin, our resident doll, is apparently being tracked by “Ace Detective” Gai Kurosawa when her former teacher wants to find and bring her home. As she remembers more and more of her past before she became a Doll, is she regaining some sense of free will.? When offered a choice between this world and that one, can she elude discovery/capture by her old life, or will she become a liability to the syndicate that needs to be eliminated?
