Ever wanted to roast some zombies with three of your closest friends? Konami knows you do, and that’s why they’re publishing Zombie Apocalypse, a game which pits you against a never-ending horde of the undead using automatic machine guns, flamethrowers, chainsaws, and a variety of other interesting weapons. Well, not really never-ending; there are 55 days of invasion you’re working to survive thro...[Read More]
I got a chance to play the Lost Planet 2 E3 demo today. We were only able to play a single level of four player co-op that took place in a lush valley, surrounded by very large mountains. Several hills and a large pool of water were also part of the setting. Weapons, a few mechs, and several respawn points were strewn about for us to discover and use against a massive six legged lizard that came o...[Read More]
Ever since its conception, The Conduit has quite possibly been one of the most anticipated games for the Wii since its launch. A system with motion controls clearly begs for competent first person shooters & real time strategy games but unfortunately, the Wii has little to offer in either of these categories. Its FPS limitations have been strongly emphasized by the lack of precise control tha...[Read More]
The original Alien Versus Predator was, as many came to find out, one of the few reasons to justify ownership of a Jaguar. Atari’s ill fated console was, to most of the industry, was an expensive practical joke, but AvP, with its unique take on corridor first person shooters, almost made the thing worth owning. Multiple perspectives, an incredible use of darkness as atmospheric support, and the ab...[Read More]
The last title I have to write about tonight is coincidentally the last game I played tonight. I think indie developer Intrinsic has something very special in their hands with their DSiware game, Reflection. Reflection’s intriguing and addictive catch is in its core gameplay– it’s a side scrolling platformer with a simple, but ingenious element. There is a full story to the game ...[Read More]
Does anyone remember Distrega? It was an arena based fighter for the original Playstation in which characters had both melee and long range, magic attacks. They were spread out over enormous, sweeping arenas, which they could travel with remarkable speed. It didn't have the fast paced rush of Virtual On and it wasn't quite as close and intimate as Power Stone, yet it still managed to carve its own...[Read More]
The original Assassin’s Creed was a like a delicious ice cream cone that, unfortunately, was too much ice cream and not enough cone to keep it from making a mess. The opening hours were beautiful; conducting investigations was a bunch of fun, and exploring the levels and, eventually, finding ways to commit assassinations were wildly enjoyable. But then the game started repeating its own tricks, an...[Read More]
Another one of those glossed over game announcements that didn’t make as big of a splash this E3 was the announcement of the States’ release of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. This game, though not as highly touted as many of the games announced this E3, is most certainly a highly anticipated title for myself and is sure to be an incredible addition to Nintendo’s downloadable ...[Read More]
Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games private demo impressions This might come as a surprise: this game’s actually fairly interesting. I know what a lot of you core gamers are thinking: after Summer Olympics, I’m not too terribly concerned about the details of the follow-up. But here’s the thing: from what we saw today, it looks like this game’s considerably more polished and possibly mor...[Read More]
I loved Indigo Prophecy. Quantic Dream’s magnificent 2005 offering totally revived the long dormant adventure genre and modernized it with a (then) next generation skin. The narrative jumped shark toward the end and the primary input, which were not unlike quick time events, got a little stale; the game didn’t run out of gas, but it never reached the amazing potential of the first couple of hours....[Read More]
One of Sony’s major hits this year is undoubtedly going to be Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I sat down with a Producer from Naughty Dog today while he showed me some of the single player greatness that is Uncharted 2. I actually have not played the game multiplayer yet, although I will be doing that tomorrow. I was able to get a 10 pack of online vouchers for the beta however, of which I am gi...[Read More]
God of War III… probably going to be my personal game of the year for 2010 when it releases in March. We have already posted the HD demo video we filmed on the floor yesterday at this location, but I also got a chance to play through a lot of the demo myself today at a booth meeting we had with Sony. Frankly, there really isn’t a lot to say about GoW III — it’s going to be ...[Read More]
