Case Closed: The Fourteenth Target

Little Conan is quite the Sherlock Homes. When several friends of detective Richard Moore are attacked methodically, it’s not long before Conan recognizes the pattern. The killer is using a numerical sequence and a deck of cards to signify his next victims. Starting with the King and working down to the Ace, the killer cleverly extracts certain Kanji (Japanese characters representing sounds or numbers) from with in the names of his victims. Shi-ICHI, (ichi= 1 in Japanese), the ace and final victim is secretly residing within Conan’s child like form. There is real danger here as the count of wounds and fatalities rise, the cards fall descending towards the ace. Could this methodical killer be the recently freed convict or is someone else scheming a complex plot? Eavesdropping and intercepting crucial information from the detectives, it’s up to Conan to save his loved ones and help this clueless crew.

PRESENTATION

Done in an almost Chibi fashion this anime is stylistically different from most. With round eyes and disproportionate bodies, this film has a child like playful charm. Perhaps that’s why its won the hearts of so many viewers as a cartoon network series. If you’ve been following the series, then you love adding the movie to you collection.

EXTRAS

Sadly it seems as if this movie has completely forgotten the Extras section. There are no options for extras in the menu and it does not come with any fun little posters. It does include Japanese, English audio options and subtitles are available, but if there is on thing this DVD is bereft of its Extras.

OVERALL

A fun mystery for the family. Solving murder mysteries and rescuing his secretly beloved Ran, this is an action packed flick. Though the violence may be too much for young children, this code is a fun one to crack. The film will have you guessing and you may just have to have the imagination of a child or the reasoning skills of Sherlock, to figure it out. Race with Conan to discover the murderer and enjoy the adventure along the way.
