Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage Volume Two

Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage Volume Two

Two children appearing to be twins are discovered and as usual no one expects anything from children so they easily tear apart an entire bar and kill all the witnesses. Mwahahaha! Did I mention the little boy uses an ax!  As the story continues it only gets more twisted and mysterious.  The twins are focused on bringing down Hotel Moscow and so the mafia takes action. The twins who have been discovered have led sheltered and twisted lives. Their innocent motto on life is “Kill or be killed”. However this motto is all they know so every meeting with others is perceived as an opportunity to kill and they like to have fun experimenting and improving their survival methods. Originally sold on the black market and forced to kill to entertain its no wonder these kids have a distorted sense of reality. The entire city is after the two kids, this includes the cops, little gangs, Captain Balalika, and heroic feeling martyrs- a full out war has broken out.

PRESENTATION

Black Lagoon Uses inspiration from Stephen Spielberg, the dark qualities of Japanese horror, and the pleasant contrast of a cute anime. This eclectic vision is intriguingly dark and disturbing. The music covers many categories as is necessary for all the shifts that happen in this series.

EXTRAS

-ENGLISH DUB:This is one of the best English dubs I have listened to in a long time. Though there is a lot of swearing it’s pleasant to finally hear some emotion from the characters. The kids voices are rather monotone but it adds the perfect removed apathetic feel.

-GENEON PREVIEWS: gankutsuou:the count of mente cristo, petite cossette, zipang

-DVD CREDITS: these seem like filler extras, and I hope for a better arrangement in the future, this can be left out

As two twins take on the world with noting but killing in their hearts, their distorted view of earth has been so darkened they may never know what love and kindness is. Though this sounds heart warming, the twins are quite sadistic and clever. Many unexpectedly gruesome twists occur, that said this is not a show for the little ones. There are a few of those moments when a viewer feels the urge to cover the eyes, but rather, enthralled at the sick mess presented, find them selves leaning forward trying not to miss anything.
