Blood Simple

I'm not a movie buff, especially of the independent genre, but if I were, I would probably have heard of the Cohen Brothers' first feature film: the 1984 crime thriller, Blood Simple. Starring John Getz, Frances McDormand, Dan Hedaya, and M. Emmet Walsh, Blood Simple is an engaging film that Fox/MGM is releasing on Blu-ray for the first time this week. As with a previous DVD release from years ago...[Read More]

Win Win

I had not heard of the movie Win Win before it landed on my desk for review. Skeptical, I watched the movie last night and was very impressed with it. A great script, acting, and a solid 'feel good' story made Win Win one of the best movies I have seen this year. Let's take a closer look at the Blu-ray release of this Fox Searchlight film.

The Battle For Marjah

Ben Anderson is a journalist that covers Afghanistan for the London Times. His footage and writing are behind a documentary film known as The Battle For Marjah, which features raw footage of a particular Marine squad that is leading the ground assault for taking the city of Marjah from Taliban control in early 2010. This film aired on HBO and is arriving on Blu-ray from Athena on September 6th.

Scooby Doo: Legend of the Phantosaur

Scooby Doo is back in a new animated original film called Legend of the Phantosaur. Starring Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby, this adventure has all of the signature Scooby Doo themes and great animation as well, making it enjoyable for kids and even adults, too.

The Magnificent Seven

Any list of classic western movies would not be complete without The Magnificent Seven, released in 1960. With a talented Director in John Sturges and a star studded cast, as well as being based off of The Seven Samurai (a classic in its own right), The Magnificent Seven was destined for greatness. MGM recently brought the film to Blu-ray, and did a fine job with the release, too.

A Fistful of Dollars

The Man With No Name Trilogy includes three Clint Eastwood / Sergio Leone films, one of which is A Fistful of Dollars. Released in 1964, this 'spaghetti western' is, simply put, a classic. Previously released on Blu-ray in the Man With No Name Trilogy, Fistful is now available as a standalone Blu-ray release.

BKO: Bangkok Knockout

Born To Fight Director Panna Rittikrai is having one of his latest projects, BKO: Bangkok Knockout arrive on Blu-ray this week thanks to Magnolia Home Entertainment, aka Magnet. The Thai film stars several young Thai actors who find themselves trapped in a bizarre reality contest which has them fighting for their lives. Despite a wacky story and some weird characters, BKO has some good things goin...[Read More]
