I was one of the many that saw Live Free Or Die Hard this summer and loved it. In fact, I love all of the Die Hard movies, although my favorite would have to be Die Hard 2. Anyway, 20th Century Fox was kind enough to send us a DVD collection they released around the time of Live Free’s theatre debut, simply entitled the Die Hard Collection. This was a pretty obvious attempt to cash in on the movie...[Read More]
When I was younger, I loved cartoons. Heck, I still love them, but finding great cartoons is much more of a challenge and rarity anymore. A substantial part of my DVD viewing is viewing older cartoons, from the heyday you might say. These include the likes of the Looney Tunes, The Tick, The Superfriends, Batman The Animated Series. There was always another series that I never got around to seeing ...[Read More]
You know I go back to some of my favorite movies from the 80s and 90s, and now that I’m older, they can be hard to watch. Back then I took in the action without a great deal of thought and just basked in the over-the-top action. Nowadays I’m much more apt to question the realism of things, all the while keeping in mind it’s just a movie of course, and I’ll even get a chuckle out of myself at parts...[Read More]
Birdman is another cartoon character I didn’t even know about until I saw Cartoon Network’s Harvey Birdman – Attorney At Law. This is another Cartoon Network spinoff of an old Hanna Barbera character, simply named Birdman. Birdman episodes, which featured a Galaxy Trio cartoon in between two Birdman cartoons, aired in 1967. These shows followed the same format as the Space Ghost & Dino Boy car...[Read More]
Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macey all came together for a recent Touchstone / Disney movie called Wild Hogs. All four of these stars are very familiar, having starred in TV shows and commercials and other big screen movies, but this is the first time they put their talents together. The result? A fairly entertaining although some what generic adventure with some decen...[Read More]
I hadn’t seen The Untouchables before it came in for review on Blu-ray from Paramount. With an all star cast featuring De Niro, Connery, and Costner, I had high hopes – and they were not only met, but exceeded, both in terms of the movie itself and in its transfer to Blu-ray.
When The Lookout came across my desk for review, I honestly hadn’t heard of the movie before, so I hit up imdb.com to see what was what. To my surprise, it had accrued a rather high average score, so I had some maybe higher expectations that I normally would have. As it turns out, my expectations did exceed what the film turned out to be, but The Lookout is nonetheless an interesting movie.
Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland star as secret service agents in The Sentinel, a thriller released on Blu-ray by 20th Century Fox earlier this year. Douglas plays Pete Garrison, a veteran secret service agent who is framed for the conspiracy of assassinating the president. In a race against time, he must not only clear his own name, but he must protect the president he swore to protect.
Walt Disney Video was kind enough to send us a copy of their recently released Blu-ray title, “Roving Mars.” This disc contains footage Walt Disney obtained during the construction of the Spirt and Opportunity Mars rovers that were developed and launched a few years ago. With a running time of just under forty minutes for the main feature, I was mighty concerned that it would be far too little con...[Read More]
Horror movies centering around an ominous, over-sized beast that terrorizes humans are a tough sell. Whether it be giant spiders, snakes, or gators, I think these movies are fairly difficult to make original and engaging anymore. Enter Primeval, the newest of such films featuring a twenty-five foot man-eating crocodile. The story is loosely based on a large crocodile that has been devouring humans...[Read More]
After the success of Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest was almost sure to succeed. And, financially, it certainly did, garnering well over 500 million in worldwide sales. For fans of the first film though, like myself, it wasn’t necessarily so great. Dead Man’s Chest is rife with unfinished and often unnecessary subplots, but it is still an entertaining film. Wh...[Read More]
In preparation for watching the third Pirates of the Caribbean film in theaters, I was fortunate enough to have the first two films on Blu-ray for review. The first film, which seems to be everybody’s favorite, is complete with nearly thirteen hours of extras on this two disc Blu-ray release.
