Shine A Light

I’m a fan of music, but I’ve never been the type of fan that wanted to see a band in concert or followed the band any closer than checking on the release date of their next album. Heck, I’ve only ever seen like two music videos, hah. It’s no surprise then that when I received Shine A Light in on Blu-ray, a Martin Scorsese directed documentary on The Rolling Stones, that I was in for a unique exper...[Read More]

The Sum of All Fears

Films based off of Tom Clancy novels are appearing in force on Blu-ray this week, with the release of Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears. Each film centers on the adventures of CIA agent Jack Ryan, who was played by Harrison Ford for the first two films, but ultimately rejected the role for the third film, The Sum of All Fears. In his place is Ben Afflick, co-starrin...[Read More]

Soulcalibur IV

“The Legend will never die,” proclaimed the famous narrator voice in the original Soulcalibur each time the player completed the Arcade mode. Nearly ten years after the American release, Namco Bandai and Project Soul have released the fourth in the critically acclaimed series. Considered by many as the greatest fighting series ever, Soulcalibur IV (SCIV) looks to take the series to new heights wit...[Read More]

Guitar Hero Aerosmith

Guitar Hero fan? Aerosmith fan, too? Well, Activision has a game for you. For the rest of us, it might not be as appealing given the price, content, and lack of downloadable content support. Guitar Hero Aerosmith is quite possibly an Aerosmith’s fan game come true (aside from Revolution X of course). However with very little new compared to Guitar Hero III, it could be a tough sell.

Point Break – Pure Adrenaline Edition

Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves star in an original and very entertaining action film from 1991 known as Point Break, now on Blu-ray. I hadn’t seen this movie before it came across my review desk, but Nathan promised me a great film. He was right, and overall this is a very good Blu-ray release that you should consider adding to your library.

The Immortals of Terra: A Perry Rhodan Adventure

It’s been too long since I sat down and played through a PC adventure game, so when I received Viva Media’s The Immortals of Terra – A Perry Rhodan Adventure for review, I was excited. Not only had it been a while since I jumped into what is probably still my favorite gaming genre, but this title looked intriguing. Turns out, while it’s not a great game, it is very good and adventure fans should s...[Read More]

Doomsday (Unrated)

Even if you’ve never taken a film class, which I haven’t, you can pretty well see that there really aren’t all that many original movie ideas, or plots, compared to the number of films out there. Just like with games, there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with redoing an idea that’s been done before, if you provide ways to make it somehow more unique. What is bad though is when a film is comprise...[Read More]

21

Kevin Spacey, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Bosworth and Jim Sturgess team up in a story about a team of MIT students who go to Vegas to play Blackjack the smart way – by counting cards to ensure a victory every time. While from what I have read it’s not very true to the real story, this edgy caper movie features some slick acting and some intriguing plot twists that make it quite entertaining.

The Sword in the Stone – 45th Anniversary Edition

Growing up, one of the few Disney movies I saw was The Sword In the Stone. The classic tale of the young boy who does the impossible and becomes King of England had a more serious and lasting message than just about any other Disney movie to date. Disney is re-releasing the movie on DVD now in a 45th Anniversary version, but not a great deal has changed. Still, it’s a classic, and worth your consi...[Read More]

The Ruins (Unrated)

Is it me or are there more horror movies these days? It could just be that it seems like I get more in for review than in years past. Anyway, The Ruins – Unrated came in on Blu-ray from Paramount this week. It looked somewhat promising, I liked the idea of the large temple and the anticipation of what horror lurked inside. It looked intriguing, but you know how trailers are – they can make just ab...[Read More]

The Scorpion King

Universal has recently released several new Blu-rays, including The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Scorpion King. I hadn’t seen any of these before, but when I got in The Scorpion King I was somewhat excited. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was a great entertainer as a wrestling superstar, and he’s put out a few decent to good films (The Rundown still being my favorite). Having seen this release now,...[Read More]

Drillbit Taylor – Extended Survival Edition

Looking back, high school is quite an experience, no matter how you slice it. While different for everyone, it’s a part of life that nearly everyone can relate to. Out now on Blu-ray is a film about one of the tribulations in high school that you may or may not have had to deal with: bullies. The film is Drillbit Taylor, which stars the accomplished Owen Wilson alongside three young actors, Troy G...[Read More]
