Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy (The complete TV series season two)

Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy (The complete TV series season two)

Breezy and blue.

The airy blue and white color theme of AMG: Flights of Fancy is pretty much the predominant thing you notice about the DVD set’s packaging. On the main box’s cover is a nice illustration of Belldandy, Skuld, and Urd, and on the back is the series synopsis framed by Urd and Peorth (with a few screenshots below). Both DVD cases are slim, clear plastic and each contains two discs. The first case has a picture of Belldandy and her Angel, Holy Bell, on the front and a picture of Urd and her Angel, World of Elegance, and the episode lists on the back. Also, on the inside of the DVD jacket is a spread illustration of Peorth. The second case features Belldandy and Keiichi on the front cover with Skuld and her Angel, Noble Scarlet, and the episode lists on the back. Each DVD also features artwork of each goddess (Belldandy, Peorth, Urd, and Skuld) with their respective Angels. The DVD menus themselves are surprisingly in-depth, visually, with the main menu featuring a scene from the show’s opening as well as plays the opening song for the series. From there, each sub menu has a different background image (rehashed from the packaging) and background music, though the main menu is the only one with a lyrical song. The voice acting for the show is decent on the English dub, but far better in the original Japanese. However, it is a series that you can easily enjoy in English because of a strong translation and acting quality.

Like Mana from Heaven.

Each DVD in the Flights of Fancy set sports some choice extra content. Disc one has production artwork, which is just a small slideshow of the different characters in different outfits. Discs two and three have the clean opening and ending animations/songs. Disc four has the list of Funimation trailers that include Peach Girl. Case Closed, xxxHolic, and more. And every disc has one or more commentaries from voice actors from the show as well as a couple of the show’s producers.

My heart’s all aflutter.

Long-time fans of this series will be happy to snatch up the latest installment of the Ah! My Goddess TV series and watch, with joy, as the series follows very closely to the original manga by Kosuke Fujishima. However, those new to the series will have no trouble at all jumping in at this starting point, even if it is mid-series, because the characters are all so easy to like and the story is easy to follow and figure out as you go. Once viewers find out who all the characters are, they can almost jump around the episode order. The story is so sweet and full of love, though, that viewers might have to go see their dentists after watching to get a few cavities filled. And in the end, you’ll still be wondering how Keiichi can be so lucky.
