(April 1, 2019) – In his third feature film, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, the writer/director of Academy Award® winning Best Foreign Language Film The Lives of Others, returns to his native Germany with NEVER LOOK AWAY arriving on Blu-ray, DVD and digital May 14 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The romantic historical drama is inspired by real events and the life of legendary artist Gerhard Richter, as it follows two German students who fall in love and soon realize the girl’s father has a devastating secret and vows to end their relationship. The film that earned cinematographer Caleb Deschanel his sixth Academy Award nomination, NEVER LOOK AWAY stars Tom Schilling (Who Am ICoffee in Berlin), Sebastian Koch (Bridge of SpiesThe Lives of Others), Paula Beer (Frantz, “Bad Banks”) and Saskia Rosendahl (Lore). The Blu-ray release of NEVER LOOK AWAY includes a lively Q&A featuring writer/director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck as he details the film’s inspirations, production, and deeper themes. 
Synopsis:
Inspired by real events and spanning three eras of German history, NEVER LOOK AWAY tells the story of young art student, Kurt (Tom Schilling), who falls in love with classmate, Ellie (Paula Beer).  Ellie’s father and famous doctor, Professor Seeband (Sebastian Koch), is dismayed at his daughter’s choice of boyfriend, and vows to destroy the relationship.  What neither Kurt nor Ellie know is that their lives are already connected through a terrible crime Seeband committed decades ago.
 
NEVER LOOK AWAY is written and directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. The film is produced by
Quirin Berg, Christiane Henckel von Donnersmarck , Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck and Max Wiedemann.
 


NEVER LOOK AWAY has a run time of approximately 189 minutes and is rated R for graphic nudity, sexuality and brief violent images.
