It’s great to see more educational games come to more VR devices! Check it out!
WHAT: After achieving success in creating the innovative virtual reality chemistry game HoloLAB Champions for HTC Vive on Steam, leading VR game development company Schell Games has announced they are now supporting Oculus Rift hardware on the platform. In addition, the company confirmed the game was honored at the VR Awards ceremony on October 16, 2018, as the winner in the VR Education of the Year category.
HoloLAB Champions teleports players into a VR-based game show where they learn real lab practice skills to complete experiments within a virtual lab. In the game, players compete in a series of minilabs hosted by Earl, the holographic show host with a witty sense of humor. HoloLAB Champions consists of two, 30 to 40 minute-long episodes to teach players basic lab skills, procedures, and protocols. The first episode, Chemiluminescence, teaches students to mix correct amounts of liquid and solid ingredients to create a glowing chemical solution. The second episode, Identify Unknowns, presents students with a set of substances and, with limited reference information, players must correctly identify each substance.
HoloLAB Champions has already gained critical acclaim from press, marking it as a great example of VR in education. VRFocus said, “HoloLAB Champions is short but sweet, offering an informative introduction into the world of chemistry.”
The game was funded in part by an SBIR grant from the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education. HoloLAB Champions was iteratively developed in partnership with students, educators, and RAND Corporation.
HOW: Players can purchase HoloLAB Champions for $9.99 on Steam. It is free for instructors, schools, and educational programs. For educator copies, please visit the For Educators page at HoloLABChampions.com and submit the requested information.
