Following the successful launch of Sonic Mania Plus earlier this week, SEGA has unveiled the final part of the popular two-part developer diary video series that gives a unique look into the newly released game as well as a retrospective of the original Sonic Mania.
Part 2, with Takashi Iizuka (Sonic Series Producer, Sonic Team) and Christian Whitehead (Lead Program Developer, Sonic Mania & Sonic Mania Plus), reflects on the community’s positive reception to Sonic Mania and how it influenced the creation of Sonic Mania Plus. Takashi and Christian shed light on the collaborative process in creating the most recent Sonic games and Sonic Team’s motivation in building off the highest-rated new Sonic game in 15 years. Fans can view Part 2 on the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel here.
In case you missed Part 1 with Kazuyuki Hoshino (Sonic Team Creative Director) & Tom Fry (Sonic Mania Plus Art Director), you can view it here. Sonic Mania Plus introduces two new playable characters, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel, and an Encore mode that provides a fresh look to familiar zones with new challenges and layouts for new and veteran players alike. Competition and Time Attack modes also received an update allowing four player competitions, and ghost challenges for time trials.
Fans can now order the game for Nintendo Switch™, Sony PlayStation®4, and Microsoft Xbox® One at participating retailers for $29.99. The all-new physical edition comes with a 32-page collector’s artbook, a reversible SEGA Genesis cover, and holographic packaging.
For all those who purchased the original digital version of Sonic Mania on consoles and PC, an Encore DLC pack is available for sale at $4.99 via Steam and first party stores to upgrade to Sonic Mania Plus.
