Fig, the community publisher behind such games as Phoenix Point, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, and Wasteland 3, has added PayPal as a payment option, making it easier than ever for fans to back a video game funding campaign on Fig to get exclusive rewards. PayPal allows backers to pay for items using their credit cards, bank accounts, and stored balances, without having to share their financial information with merchants, and is a particularly desired payment method for international backers.
“Gamers and developers have made it clear that they want flexibility in payment options to support campaigns, and the number one payment gateway they’ve requested is PayPal, which we now support. Because we are industry experts and curate our campaigns, we are able to add this option, which is something that Kickstarter and IndieGoGo don’t do,” said Justin Bailey, CEO, Fig.
Paypal is available as a payment option for pre-orders and campaigns on Fig, including its current campaign for A Fold Apart, just released this week. A Fold Apart is a 3D puzzle game with an award-winning paper folding mechanic inspired by origami, receiving recognition as the 2018 GDC Best in Play, by GamesRadar+ as 2018 Best of PAX East, and as Finalist in the 2018 Ubisoft Indie Series. The campaign can be viewed at fig.co/afoldapart.
Fig is democratizing video game publishing by inviting the community to financially support the development and release of games they love. Fans can back a game funding campaign on Fig to get exclusive rewards, or invest in Fig Game Shares to earn returns based on game sales. Fig Game Shares are available to both accredited and non-accredited investors, in accordance with the SEC’s Regulation A+ (JOBS Act).
Each series of Fig Game Shares generate returns from the sales of individual titles. Investors can earn returns from revenue shares from Fig’s publishing operations, distribution arrangements, publisher and first party buyouts, and advances on distributions. Since its inception in August 2015, Fig has had four of the top 10 most funded video game campaigns: Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity 2 ($4.4M), Psychonauts 2 ($3.8M), Wasteland 3 ($3.1M) and Phoenix Point ($766K). In 2018, a dozen new releases are scheduled, including the recently released Pillars of Eternity 2 from Obsidian Entertainment.
