In celebration of World Oceans Day today, Niantic published the results from its Pokémon GO Earth Day initiative in April where, in partnership with Mission Blue and Playmob, the company hosted cleanup events around the world that encouraged players to pick up trash, clean up natural areas alongside their fellow Trainers and demonstrate how games can make a positive impact.
Over 4,200 players participated in 68 cleanup events in 19 countries, collecting over 6.5 tons of garbage in aggregate. By well-surpassing the milestone of having over 3,000 players show up to the cleanup events around the world, participants unlocked global in-game bonuses for the entire Pokémon GO community, including 3x Stardust when catching Ground-, Water- and Grass-type Pokémon.
