Tribeca games festival to announce new guests and contest, also expanding programming

Festivals!

Following the announcement of the inaugural Tribeca Games Festival, in partnership with Kill Screen, two weeks ago, Tribeca Games is happy to announce major expansions to the content and programming at this year’s fest. Already bursting at the seams with industry luminaries like Hideo Kojima, Ken Levine, and Sam Lake, today’s announcement bolsters many of the existing talks by adding new voices to these conversations from esteemed film directors Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), Neil Burger (Divergent, Limitless), and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (co-directors of Spring). Many of the other talks and panels have also seen the addition of a moderator, with some of the top critical voices in the industry coming onboard to drive the conversations, like editors from The Atlantic, Polygon, The Verge, and GQ.

Content additions include:
Director Doug Liman has been added to speak with Ken Levine as the creator of the BioShock series reflects on his two decades in videogames and the legacy his work has created for interactive storytelling.
Director Neil Burger will speak with Sam Lake (Max Payne, Alan Wake and Quantum Break.) during his presentation, centering on his unique approach to storytelling in games.
Achievement Oriented Podcast will be live at Tribeca Games Festival when The Ringer’s Ben Lindbergh and Jason Conception talk character design with Overwatch lead writer Michael Chu and building narrative worlds in the Halo universe with 343 Industries’ Kiki Wolfkill for a special episode of the Achievement Oriented podcast
Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead are being added to the X Post Conversation with Giant Sparrow’s Ian Dallas. Justin and Aaron are the team behind the Toronto Film Festival 2014 favorite Spring and the Tribeca 2012 hit Resolution. The films have been acclaimed for their naturalistic performances, dreamlike cinematography, and avant-garde approach.

Added moderators include:
Industry mainstay Geoff Keighley has been tapped to moderate Hideo Kojima’s highly-anticipated keynote, the capstone to the festival.
Alex Goldman of Gimlet Media and the podcast Reply All will guide the “25th Anniversary of The Lawnmower Man + The Past, Present & Future of VR” conversation.
Chris Grant, Polygon’s Editor-in-Chief, is set to drive the Retro Active talks given by The Stanley Parable creator Davey Wreden and John Watson of The Banner Saga series.
Adi Robertson, Senior Reporter at The Verge, comes on to lend her voice to the X Post Conversation between virtual reality directors Winslow Porter and Milica Zec and Director of USC’s Game Innovation Lab Tracy Fullerton.
Matt Thompson, Deputy Editor of The Atlantic, will moderate the Retro Active conversation with Watch Dogs 2 Creative Director Jonathan Morin.
Chelsea Stark, News Editor at Polygon, joins us to steer the X Post Convo with Robin Hunicke, founder of indie studio Funomena, and Baobab Studios CEO Maureen Fan.
Kevin Nguyen, Deputy Digital Director at GQ, will moderate the X Post Conversation between Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead with Giant Sparrow’s Ian Finch

Sitting at the intersection of games, entertainment, and culture, the festival will include behind-the-scenes looks back at some of the most fascinating games of the past year, and conversations with cultural leaders and game industry insiders, including a conversation with legendary game creator, Hideo Kojima. The inaugural Tribeca Games Festival will take place April 28-29 during the Tribeca Film Festival at The Tribeca Festival Hub at Spring Studios. Tickets are on sale now at www.tribecafilm.com/games. The Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, runs April 19-30.
