The Empire of Corpses is about the resurrection of the dead and using them for servants and other workers. It starts out as Dr. John Watson who is overly obsessed with the science of Dr. Victor Frankenstein who has revived the dead. Dr. Watson has decided to do the same thing and revive his friend. There is a lot of bloodshed when Dr. Watson travels around the world to find the journals of Victor Frankenstein before the enemy does.

The animation is very life like and honestly the best part about the film. At points the storyline didn’t make sense and a lot of things were being overly explained rather than just being shown. I think the film would have been a little less confusing with some sort of flash backs so the audience can really account for the past event that happened rather than just being told. On another note the English dub seemed to fit really well in the film, it didn’t seem delayed which I appreciated. The animation was wonderful the color palette was vibrant at some points, which added to the content.

Extras:

• Funimation Short: Empire of Corpses

• Promo Videos

• Original Trailer

• Trailers

The extra features on the Blu-ray really give a fun look inside of the story and how The Empire of Corpses came to be. The Funimation short on The Empire of Corpses allows the audience to sit down with the writer and the actors from the anime film. We get a chance to see the voices behind the magic of the anime film as they provide hilarious commentary on their thoughts of the film, zombies and the overall view of the storyline. The actors are all very real and relatable and they give honest answers to the interview questions and come up with their own theories on how to revive the dead. A couple of other features are the promo videos that are awesome, however if you don’t speak Japanese it may be very hard to understand but there are a few English subtitles. The overall scenes selected for both promos are engaging and really get you excited with all of the action packed scenes. The Blu-ray also includes the original trailer for the film as well as trailers for other films. This part of the features is worth the money because it includes so much more than just the film and a couple bloopers.

I can see why Anime is in a category of it’s own, it is very unique in the style of animation and very distinct.
