Behind the scenes for Daydreamer: Awakened Edition

Behind the scenes for Daydreamer: Awakened Edition

When you’re inspired to create a side-scrolling shooter/action platformer that pays tribute to the 8- and 16-bit eras of yesteryear, but you’re only a one-person studio, where do you go? Well, according to Roland Womack — the programmer, designer, artist, founder, and sole employee of Roland Studios — ideas can come from just about anywhere. Yes, even simple doodles can eventually become an integral part of a game’s creative direction.

Our newest Daydreamer: Awakened Edition video shows a behind the scenes look at Womack’s different inspirations for the creepy environments, monsters, bosses, and animations in the game. Sci-films, retro video game from the 80s, and grotesque artistic murals in New York City are just some of the influences that helped Womack bring his outlandish vision of Daydreamer: Awakened Edition alive.
