E3 2013 – Castle of Illusion

E3 2013 – Castle of Illusion

In speaking with the Sega rep while I played, I learned several things. First, they did consider just re-making the original Castle of Illusion and releasing it as some kind of “HD” version. They were quick to scrap this and decided to maintain the levels from the original, but make it much more modern. So, there are no “new” levels from the original game, but these new ones are likely to feel different just due to the disparity in age.

That said, Castle of Illusion is not necessarily a casual platformers game. It requires accurate timing, such as navigating spring-to-spring (etc) jumps or watching enemy patterns. You also have to be mindful of how you use your marbles, which are objects you can throw at enemies in the event you don’t platform around them.

Slated for release on current gen systems and PC via XBLM, PSN, and Steam, Castle of Illusion looks like a great platformer in the making.
