Cars 2

Mater hit’s the road with racing sensation Lightening McQueen as he is out to prove he’s the best once again in the first-ever World Grande Prix. This race will once and for all determine the fastest car in the world or maybe just the most explosive. Mater is along for the race this time around, but maybe not for long as he wheels into the middle of international espionage. Mater finds himself in a tow-jam as he finds himself torn between helping McQueen win and the British super spy Finn McMissle.

Did Pixar hit a pothole?

Normally I have only the best things to say about Pixar and Disney! They are normally music to my ears, but this time I was slightly disappointed. The charm just wasn’t there this lap around the track. The story, as exciting as it was at times, just lacked the specific flawless flow Pixar films usually have. Everything charming about the original Cars was lost when they went international. The original characters seemed to have all been left behind. The new characters were fun, but lacked the originality or the Radiator Springs characters.

I realize that Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) and McQueen (Owen Wilson) are the most popular and fun characters in the films, but I feel like McQueen was hardly in Cars 2. It was more of an extended ‘Mater Tall Tale’ than a ‘Cars’ film. I think that would have been a better representation of the film and it’s direction.  Kids however will still absolutely love this film. Mater has a more than ridiculous way about him that young children find hilarious. My 3 year old nephew adores him.

Now, with that being said I didn’t actually dislike the film I was just disappointed. I did however really enjoy the new characters Francesco Bernoulli, Finn McMissile and Holly Shiftwell. They were all very fresh and entertaining characters. Michael Caine was the perfect British spy voice. He has a very respectable sounding voice that adds the perfect quality needed for his character. Emily Mortimer was excellent as Holly and John Turturro was an outstanding Italian racecar. The cast was an overall excellent choice of characters.

Pixar and Disney may have taken a slight detour when it came to the storyline, but the quality of the film was, as always, perfect. The beauty of Pixar/Disney is indisputable. The race tracks and surrounding background sceneries of the film were immaculate. The details were beautifully designed and incredibly creative. The colors were rich and bold with perfect clarity. The animation is absolutely gorgeous. The picture and sound quality of this Blu-ray are both quite breathtaking.

Disc 2- DVD Feature Film + Bonus

There aren’t an incredible amount of features in this combo pack, but they are still good ones. I like the commentary quite a bit. I always enjoys learning the tid bits behind the creation of the film at hand. The shorts are quite amusing. They usually always are, but these are really cute. All in all not bad features, but it would have been nice to get a little more. Then again if you really want special feature I’d suggest the 5 or 11 disc Blu-ray combo packs. They appears to have a ridiculous amount of bonus features.
