Running Guns

As you can tell from the title, Gun is about guns, and more specifically, an illegal gun-running operation in modern day Detroit. 50 Cent plays Rich, the tough leader of the gun runners who sells numerous assault rifles and handguns to other criminals on the streets. It’s a lucrative and dangerous business but Rich plays it smart and has yet to have any murders or charges pinned against him.

It seems like nothing can stop Rich and his crew, which includes Val Kilmer’s character, Angel. Angel had previously helped Rich out over a decade ago during a cop raid. When he’s finally released from prison, he joins up with Rich again. Things are going so well for Rich and his ‘business’ that he is ready to move operations up to the next level. The question is, will the ATF and local police finally be able to catch him in the act?

Gun does a pretty nice job of keeping a couple of major plot points hidden from the viewer including the fate of Angel’s wife and young daughter. I think this movie also ends at the right time, too. While the movie is pretty enjoyable, it ends before it wears out its welcome, a design choice that a lot of other films could benefit from.

On Blu-ray

The Blu-ray release is no frills. Expect a clean image and a nice DTS-HD 5.1 audio track that captures the grim Detroit atmosphere nicely. You wouldn’t, or shouldn’t, expect anything less from a modern day film on HD. There are English subtitles and a scene selection feature built into the title menu as well.

As for extra features, just the trailer for Gun, in SD, is all you get. It’s a shame that at least a commentary track wasn’t thrown in.

With that, let’s get to the summary…
