Here In Peace?
I never saw the original V series from the 80s, and I only recently started watching this series when the first season arrived for review. V, short for visitors, stars Morena Baccarin, Scott Wolf, Morris Chestnut, Laura Vandervoort, Elizabeth Mitchell and several others as our world tries to decide what to do with these Visitors that suddenly appeared above over two dozen of our cities. Anna, the mouthpiece of the Visitors played by Baccarin, claims they’re here in peace and just want to help us out with their amazing technologies including the ability to heal us instantly and all sorts of other wonderful things.
Sweeping changes take place across the world as people succumb to these Visitors thinking they really are here just in peace, but that really wouldn’t make an interesting story now would it? So during an investigation, in the first episode, FBI agent Elizabeth Mitchell discovers a cell of people that are against the Visitors. She finds out that they aren’t who they say they are, but instead they’re creatures resembling reptiles that are hiding beneath a faux human skin. The season builds up to a showdown
between Erica and Anna.
On Blu-ray
The Blu-ray release of V – The Complete First Season includes a removable box cover that contains a two disc keep case. Each disc contains six episodes and a few extra features that I will get to shortly. As for presentation quality, V looks and sounds great, no complaints. You wouldn’t expect much less from a modern day TV show transferred to Blu-ray, but at times these releases can contain plenty of grain and have an overall lackluster image. I haven’t detected much of that with V, though. There are language
tracks for English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese too. I’d also like to point out that within the case is a nice color booklet with a synopsis for each episode and some images from the show.
I thought ABC did a nice job with the extra features for this release. They are:
-The Actor’s Journey From Human To V (17m, HD) – Cast interviews about reviving the series and the challenges and rewards from doing so.
-Deleted Scenes (5.5m, HD) – Eight scenes, two from the pilot and six from “There Is No Normal Anymore”
Disc 2:
-Breaking Story: The World of V (16.5m, HD) – A look at how this V differs from the original.
-An Alien In Human Skin: The Makeup of V (12m, HD) – All about the special effects and make-up.
-Visual FX (15m, HD) – Footage of green room shots and comparisons, etc.
-Deleted Scenes (12m, HD) – Four deleted scenes.
