New Lionsgate releases to check out

Princess Kaiulani
The epic true story of a Hawaiian princess who must choose between love and duty comes to DVD, Digital Download and On Demand this fall from Lionsgate. This “beautiful” (San Francisco Chronicle) film uncovers the legend of Princess Kaiulani (Q’orianka Kilcher, The New World), whose plight takes her from her island paradise to Victorian England and to the U.S. White House after the royal family is exiled.  But the most unexpected journey Kaiulani must navigate may be that of her own heart, when she meets the young and handsome Clive Davies (Shaun Evans) who tempts her to change her fate for love. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Hawaii, Princess Kaiulani garnered the Audience Award at the 2009 Hawaii International Film Festival and has been hailed by critics as “exotic, erotic” (The New York Post) and “charming” (Onion A.V. Club).  Co-starring Shaun Evans (Dread), and Emmy® Award-nominated Barry Pepper (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie, 61*, 2001), the story of this legendary princess arrives on DVD, featuring bonus content that includes a behind-the-scenes featurette and the documentary, “Kaiulani: The Crown Princess of Hawaii.”

Following an idyllic childhood in Honolulu, the willful and beautiful Princess Kaiulani is sent to Britain to receive an education fit for a future heir to the Hawaiian throne. There, she meets the handsome young Clive Davies (Shaun Evans), who quickly sweeps her off her feet. But meanwhile, destiny calls back home, as supporters of U.S. annexation overthrow the royal Hawaiian government. Now, Kaiulani must choose between love and duty to her people in this sweeping tale of royalty, romance and destiny.
