Heroes of Might & Magic Online closed beta announced; fellow editor Greg Schardein loses consciousness

So the other day I was discussing with fellow editor and sibling Greg Schardein the prospects of an online Heroes of Might & Magic experience.  We both came to the agreement that, while it would probably demand massive amounts of time as well, it’d be incredibly awesome.  We doubted we’d ever see it, however.

But somebody out there is reading minds, apparently, as such has just been announced.

Of course, while there’s no guarantee that the game will come anywhere close to matching the immersiveness of the classic HOMM PC games (most notably III), China-based MMORPG developer TQ Digital is apparently crafting a Heroes of Might & Magic Online experience which will be a “2.5D turn-based massively multiplayer environment”.  It certainly sounds compelling anyway, especially to those of us who have experienced some serious HOMM withdrawal since the series essentially went dormant.  Ubi’s entry in the franchise wasn’t bad, but it didn’t quite approach the brilliance of the previous installments (stop hating on 4… even though, yes, you can send out a single skeleton to collect all your nearby resources and extend your turn to well over an hour in length).  New World Computing, how we miss you.
