The Princess and The Frog

The Princess and The Frog

The Princess and The Frog

A modern day classic brought to life with a little jazz, 1920s New Orleans jazz that is. The classic story of The Frog Prince is retold New Orleans style when Tiana kisses The Frog Prince Naveen in hopes of rescuing him from the evil voodoo Shadow Mans spell. They both end up hopping through the not so frog friendly bayou in search of Mama Odie who may be able to help break the spell and turn them human again.  Along the way the mismatched pair encounters quite the array of enchanting characters that help them along their journey. With Tiana’s hardworking principles and Prince Naveen’s care free personality the two may just be, a dream come true. Join Tiana and Prince Naveen as they journey on a charmed adventure through the bayou, and into your hearts.

Love at First Sight

The first memory I recall when thinking back on my childhood is watching The Little Mermaid over and over again. I watched it so many times, and I kid you not, that the VHS stopped working correctly. I absolutely loved and still love that film! Now, to my extreme joy and satisfaction, the same wonderful team that brought us The Little Mermaid brings back traditional hand drawn animation at its best. This is the way all animation should be made, absolutely beautiful in its original perfection. There is just something so special about the way it looks, and feels. It holds so much more romance and fairytale magic than the total CG animation.

The coloring was magnificent! Extremely brilliant and eye catching, especially during the music sequences. It had a lot of charisma musically, much along the same lines as Hercules, and Aladdin. Very upbeat and colorful music sequences.  The Mama Odie song, WOW, what outstanding color and energy! The soundtrack is great! Never Knew I Needed by Ne-Yo was the perfect closer.  The songs are all incredibly catchy and easily remembered.  The sound was superb. Every animal and insect from the bayou got to shine. The dialogue and background were in perfect balance.

The characters were absolutely enchanting.  Tiana (voice of Anika Noni Rose) stylishly takes her place among the beloved Disney Princesses. She is the perfect blend for a modern fairytale Princess. She is very down to earth and hard working. She sends a wonderful message for all ages, wish upon your shining star, then get to working for your dreams. Tiana and Prince Naveen (voice of Bruno Campos) are a match made in New Orleans. They complement each other with grace and believability. The two are an excellent match for a modern day fairytale. They’ll definitely pull the laughs out of you.

Tiana and Prince Naveen aren’t the only two characters standing out. Tiana’s friend Charlotte is absolutely a riot! She tickles your funny bone from second one. Firefly Ray, is also extremely entertaining and irrevocably in love with his immaculate Evangeline, who just happens to be the brightest evening wishing star. Louis, a huge trumpet playing alligator with Jungle Books Baloo like qualities, adds a wonderful amount of charisma to the story as well. The list of characters continues with one evil voodoo dealin villain (Dr. Facilier) that could rival Ursula. Each character brings something very special to the screen. They lack nothing when it comes to charm and likability.   They are all extremely memorable and lovable.

Not only were the characters enchanting, but laugh out loud funny! This film was full of shoulder shaking laughter. The story was incredibly entertainingly inventive and the dialogue was hilarious. There were some very clever lines. It really was just an all around wonderful film. The characters, story plot, voices, and songs were all entertaining for children and adults alike. The Princess and The Frog is the classic animation any parent would want their child watching.

Ron Clements and John Musker, along with the rest of their team, did an absolutely outstanding job in every way possible. The amazing story of The Princess and The Frog is guaranteed to hop its way into the hearts and homes of children across the globe, young and old alike.
