Dark Void Zero (Nintendo DSiWare) – Impressions and footage, part 1

I don’t think there’s any company out there who is better suited to reenter the 8-bit classic gaming design arena than Capcom. Having said that, here they are positing to us that they’ve found some sort of “lost” code that amounted to a game which was never released in the 80s called Dark Rift. Even PR has been told to feed this line to the press jokingly and with a very heavy dose of sarcasm, which makes for a fun encounter. They’ll swear it’s true even as they wink at and nudge you.

So we watched the demo being played by one of the Capcom devs, and I have to say, it looks pretty awesome, even considering that it’s just three levels long (and supposedly around two hours total). Apparently unofficial word has already hit the streets that the game will retail for 500 points, and although nothing can be confirmed, we’d put our money on it that a release will happen this month (I mean, consider that the full-on Dark Void is also releasing in just a couple of weeks… it only makes sense).

It’s reportedly a very challenging game, even while the console version aims to “not provoke you to pull your hair out”. It certainly looks challenging anyway, even though the PR lady on hand is a badass with the jetpack. She’s really freaking good at the game, though the hand-held footage was very shaky. So yeah, apologies for that and everything. I tried my best to deshake it using some expensive software we have on hand here at the nonexistent DigitalChumps studio, but I could only do so much. I certainly hope it does not induce any nausea upon the members of our loyal readership.
