Clerks

The tale of two New Jersey convenience store clerks, Dante Hicks (Brian OHalloran), and best friend Randall (Jeff Anderson.) The problematic day all begins when Dante is called in on his day off and has to drag himself into work. Randall, the video clerk from next door is of no help to Dante, constantly harassing his customers. Dante’s day is an exhausting one full of problems. He finds out his ex-girlfriend is getting married, another ex has died and today is the last day to visit the wake, and his current girlfriend is bugging him to death about going to school, he has to deal with two drug dealers he can’t seem to get rid of, and to boot all he has a hockey game at 2 with no one to cover for him. All these problems to deal with and hes not even supposed to be working that day!

Chasing Amy

Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) is a New Jersey comic book writer living with his best friend and artist Bankly Edwards (Jason Lee.) They have a hit comic book series (Bluntman and Chronic) loosely based on the silly character Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith.) Holden meets a fellow comic book creator Alyssa Hones (Joey Lauren Adams) and they develop a very interesting relationship until Holden finds something out about her past and starts acting a little on the ridiculous side. He may threaten more than one relationship if he cant pull it together.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back

After being slapped with a restraining order Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) are out of business and bored. They hear about a film being made of Bluntman and Chronic (a hit comic based on them) and decide to travel to Hollywood and get the recognition and money they deserve.  Along the way they encounter a vast array of characters and get stuck in all sorts of interesting situations. This film is packed with stars from George Carlin to Will Ferrell, along with the normal Kevin Smith cast. Its quite a ridiculous adventure.

Clerks– They did a good job enhancing the film. It looks very nice, but I don’t necessarily feel it was a film that needed to be enhanced seeing that its black and white and the film was never made to be visually flashy. The film was all about the dialogue. You really get to see the depth of how much effort they really put into transferring it with the restoration bonus feature.

There weren’t really a lot of new bonus features except for the featurette about the transfer process, the new Kevin Smith intro., and a making of featurette Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Why that’s not on the Jay & Silent Bob film, I have no idea. Everything else you could have seen on a previous release.

Chasing Amy– This was the only DVD that had any new features, and the Chasing Amy document is excellent! It looks alright but its just not wonderful blu-ray material. The coloring, although not eye catching, was nicely restored, but the picture wasnt very sharp. Then once again this movie wasnt made for visuals. Very funny movie thou. Love the cast.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back– This is my favorite film in the collection just because its so ridiculous and silly. It definitely looks and sounds the best out of all three of the films. Sadly there are no new bonus features with this release. This film was released not too long ago (2006) and its pretty much the exact same thing, just in a collection pack.

The sound is alright in the films, but nothing fancy. The films just werent made for crazy sound effects. They are based on dialogue.  The dialogue does sound good thou.  Jay & Silent Bob was once again the best of the collection.

If you already own the movies separately I don’t think I’d recommend going out and buying this set. The quality just doesn’t seem worth the extra purchase. However, if you love the films, know someone who does, or just want the set to say you own it, it would be a great deal for a gift or yourself.  There are a lot of fun extras on the DVDs, but like I said not much extra from their original releases.
