Impressions: Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron

The first Star Wars Battlefront PSP title was a huge success for Lucasarts, so they’re back  to the platform for a new title, Elite Squadron. Elite Squadron gives players the ability to  navigate Hero, Land, and Space battles, all at once. The game will feature a dozen worlds,  all with objectives that span from the planet to space, and players will have the option to  partake in the mayhem on all fronts. This is accomplished with players taking spacecraft  from the ground and flying them into space. After command points are secured, players can  even respawn in space too.

Elite Squadron will support sixteen player battles, too. Also, the Hero function of Elite  Squadron is done via a powerup; players will encounter a Hero powerup while playing, which  they have the option of using or not when they walk over it. If you do, you will be  transformed into a Hero character who is capable of doing lots of damage. When you become a  Hero, a meter pops up on screen that will deplete anytime that your character is not doing  harm to the enemy. Whenever the meter runs out, you turn back into a normal character.

I wasn’t able to spend a great deal of time with Elite Squadron, and I actually didn’t play  much of the original Battlefront PSP title for whatever reason, but Elite Squadron is  shaping up very well. Look for it later this summer on the PSP and PSP Go.
