Why DigitalChumps should be on YOUR E3 ‘F5’ List

Fellow Chumps,

This is Managing Editor Steve Schardein with some pretty shocking revelations concerning what you’ll be seeing this E3. With the show just around the corner, you’re probably wondering what sites you’re going to frequent for the best coverage. Now this is going to sound self-important (really?), but allow me to suggest another entry for your list of F5s: US.

Why, precisely, you might ask, would I visit DigitalChumps.com over the big guys like IGN and Gamespot? Well, you won’t; if you’re like the rest of us hardcore gamers, you’re looking for information in multiple places… and that’s the best way to get it, of course. But we’re different this year. Sure, we’re independent. And yeah, we’re freaking broke. But we’re also determined and we love what we do. As a result, this year, I can make some pretty exciting promises to you regarding our upcoming coverage.

Without further ado, here’s what you can expect from DigitalChumps during E3 2009:

  • We will have the best video on the internet from the show – While other sites are still stuck in the Stone Age of 640×360 “high-res” video, we’ve gone full-blown HD to 1280×720. Streaming. FREE. WTF? Uh-huh. In other words, video’s posted, you click Play, and assuming you have the type of connection and computer hardware that you should as a self-respecting hardcore gamer, you’re viewing high-definition video streaming at 30 frames per second with no wait time.

  • We will have a TON of video – We’re shooting for 20-30 HOURS of video from the show floor, all available in high-quality, FREE, streaming. Most of this (75%) will be in high-definition. We are going to have four to five HD cameras at the show with four people attending dedicated solely to videography. What that means for you is, quite simply, a TON of video.

  • We will have insightful, informative, in-depth impressions – Our writers have been doing this for quite a long time at various other web sites, and we all know the drill. Our standards this year are based on a goal of interesting, inspired writing and none of the PR fluff you’re probably used to from other sites.

  • We will have a TON of impressions – We are shooting for at minimum 120 exclusive articles from the show. That means that you’ll have at least that many game impressions to wade through if you stick around the site and watch for our updates.

  • We will take YOUR REQUESTS – Yes, indeed. So our forum community is new, and yes, consequently, it’s still quite vacant. In an effort to show the community how important they are to us, we will tailor our coverage to your requests. That means if you have questions you’d like asked of a certain developer, we’ll ask them, and we’ll credit the information to you once it’s made available. Or, if you want to see video footage of a particular title (or even a particular aspect of that title), we can try to do that for you, too. All you’ve got to do is let us know what you want to see, and we’ll do everything in our power to make it a reality.

We’ll have eight people total at the show this year, and all of us are dedicated to working our keesters off to get you everything you want to see as quickly as we possibly can. Having said that, in the interest of full disclosure, keep just a couple of things in mind:

  • Most updates will take place AFTER E3 hours, when we’ve had time to start the production/writing process. That means AFTER 6 PM PST on a daily basis, or 9 PM EST. So during the day, you might want to check out the big sites, and at night, visit ours to see what we’re rolling out (it’ll be a lot).

  • A good portion of the video will be posted in the days following E3 because we are going to have so much of it. HD takes a while to encode, also, and that’s not to mention uploading time. So what this basically means is, while we’ll undoubtedly have the best quality video out there and probably close to the most, you might have to wait just a little bit longer for some of it. However, if there’s something you’d like to see as quickly as possible, make a request, and we’ll make it happen.

Here’s to you, our soon-to-be loyal reader!
