3D Realms has shut its doors; Apogee Software, Deep Silver continue with Duke Nukem Trilogy

Shacknews reports today that 3D Realms has let all its employees go and shut its doors, citing funding issues.  Until moments ago this left Duke Nukem’s fate undecided, but Apogee Software and Deep Silver have just issued a statement saying they are unaffected by the situation and that:

Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned.

That’s fortunate for the DS/PSP installments of the franchise, but as for the much-delayed Duke Nukem Forever, it certainly doesn’t look good.  The folks at the original Apogee Software and 3D Realms are the ones affected by this tragedy… so no matter what comes out of this on the software front, it’s certainly a scary time for the industry.

We’ll have more on this situation as it breaks.
