BREAKING: Smash Bros. and Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai working on new project with Nintendo

Kick-ass.  Masahiro Sakurai, better known as the genius behind the Super Smash Bros. and Kirby series, is officially working on another game with Nintendo.  His company, Sora Ltd., is partnered with Nintendo via an affiliated entity, Project Sora, which was created specifically as a first-party developer underneath Nintendo—also announced today.  Nintendo owns a 72% stake in this new subsidiary.  The new company currently has 30 employees and is seeking more “talented” individuals.

For anyone who’s familiar with his works, this should stand as remarkably positive news.  Sora is among the shrinking body of game developers still expanding the realm of creative ideas without catering squarely to the casual crowds, and that is precisely what we Nintendo fans appreciate the most.

About this project the new company is working on, Satoru Iwata assured that it’s not another Smash Bros. game, saying, “It’s not Smash Bros. I asked for.” Sakurai added, “i can promise an experience that’s different from anything [you’ve played] up until now.”

It’s a good time to be a Nintendo fan.  Keep your eyes peeled for more, soon.
