I wasn’t sure what to think of this series at first. The basic premise of the show didn’t seem interesting, and the style seems aimed at a much younger audience than standard shonen anime. But I was pleasantly surprised. The anime is actually based off of a stage play created by Kazuki Nakashima (of Gurren Lagann fame) so it was easy to assume this was going to be…different. In ancient Edo Japan things are looking pretty grim. The Economy is in the dumps and new laws have been passed forbidding anything considered frugal or unnecessary…things such as entertainment, fireworks, and music. Spirits are low but our protagonist continues to experiment with and launch fireworks over the night sky of Edo even if it’s against the law.

This fancy set came in an oversized hard box with the first half of the series (Episodes 1-12) along with a nice looking art book labeled as the family photo album. There is a handy Character Index and Terminology by episode at the end of the book as well. Other features of the set include various commercials and trailers for the show, clean opening and ending, but not much else. I was pleasantly surprised by this series, despite only having the first half of it to review. If there was one strike against this series, and this is really just a matter of opinion, is that there is no Dubbing option for the series – subtitled with Japanese audio is the only way to watch it. While this does not bother me there may be some viewers that would like an English dub as well.

Season two of Rosario picks up at the beginning of Junior Year for our hapless protagonist. Returning to Yokai Academy Tsukune runs into his harem. Moka the vampire, Kurumu the succubus, Shirayuki the snow woman, Rubi the human witch, and Yukari the loli witch. Of course in proper harem anime style there’s a new girl in town. Another Vampire to be exact. Kokoa arrives as a freshman at Yokai academy and is revealed to be none other than Moka’s little sister! After hearing that her sister the Super S Class Monster is behaving like a normal high school girl this little sister is on a path of vengeance and is utterly determined to get her real sister back by any means necessary. Mostly Kokoa is a comedic relief character that after being introduced at the beginning of the season shows up about once an episode for a single scene before being either defeated or otherwise deterred in her process to bring the ‘real’ Moka back to life. The introduction of Kokoa is largely the only true change in season two. There are some additional side...

Well it’s time for another ecchi anime review. Apparently I got stockpiled with these things. This time the anime is Sekirei – a near-future era story of our hapless protagonist Minato Sahashi, a student that has failed to get into college twice, who finds himself in a battle of Heaven and Earth in the city of Shintou Teito.

What is intended as a romantic comedy fails spectacularly in the story of Yamada, the fifteen year old freshman whose greatest desire in life is to sleep with 100 men now that she’s in highschool. This 12 episode series tries to market itself like similar Funimation titles Sekirei, Strike Witches, and other ‘ecchi’ series…but this just comes off as kinda creepy and insulting.

A school comedy/drama revolving around Ryoko Okami, a highschool girl and member of the Otogi Bank school club. The Otogi Bank  revolves around solving other students problems for unspecified favors in the future. Their activities skirt the line of being illegal but they manage to not get in trouble with authorities mostly from their close connections with the dirty old man of a school Principal.
