Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is the latest entry into the famed series, and while it shares some gameplay elements and themes we've come to expect, it takes some bold steps to blazing its own path. While not a total success, I did enjoy Yaiba more so than NG3, although not by much. Let's take a closer look.

The update of Ninja Gaiden 3 is now out for the Xbox 360 and PS3. These new editions come after the game first arrived on the Wii U last year. Since I don’t have a Wii U, I won’t bother to compare these new versions to the Wii U installment. For more details on the Wii U version, check out Steve McGehee’s review.

One of gaming’s favorite ninjas, Ryu Hayabusa, is back in a new installment of Ninja Gaiden for the PS Vita.

Back in March, I called Ninja Gaiden 3 the "Phantom Menace" of the series. Updated for the Wii U, NG3: Razor's Edge is like the Sigma releases for the other NG games -- it offers a variety of tweaks and balances and some significant new new content. Second time the charm?

It's got the name and the speed of Ninja Gaiden, but this is definitely the "Phantom Menace" of the series thus far.

I cursed my way through Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox years ago, but it was a labor of love. I never played NG: Black, and while I purchased NG: Sigma when it was released, I have yet to complete it. Now, Tecmo/KOEI has released Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus (NGSP) exclusively for the Vita. It includes some Vita-exclusive controls as well as the Hero Mode and Ninja Trials, making this the most complete version of the classic to date.

Ninja Gaiden was a great old arcade game, one of my favorites. When Ninja Gaiden came to the Xbox in 2004, I was stoked. It turned out to be a tough, but very rewarding and enjoyable game featuring action that was fast as hell and some very memorable battles. This experience was enhanced by the release of the Hurricane packs on Xbox Live and then the release of Ninja Gaiden Black, which I never got around to playing. Now, Tecmo brings us Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Sigma features all the goodies found in Black, but also sports gorgeous 1080p 60fps visuals, new enemies, new areas, and the ability to play as Rachel. What amounts is a game that is even better than the outstanding game I remember.
