I'll be honest. I didn't see this film in the theaters because of Roseanne Barr. Her loudmouth character on the show by her first name really rubbed me raw, especially the later years of it. With that said, she is a brilliant comedian and actress, and I was dead wrong about missing this one because of her. She sold her role as Maggie the cow, and brought some fresh spirit with it.

Little Big Man
Hot
In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, CBS/Paramount is set to release Little Big Man on Blu-ray for the first time. The acclaimed and anti-establishment film starring Dustin Hoffman is enjoyable, but this particular release is not definitive.

Any list of classic western movies would not be complete without The Magnificent Seven, released in 1960. With a talented Director in John Sturges and a star studded cast, as well as being based off of The Seven Samurai (a classic in its own right), The Magnificent Seven was destined for greatness. MGM recently brought the film to Blu-ray, and did a fine job with the release, too.

The Man With No Name Trilogy includes three Clint Eastwood / Sergio Leone films, one of which is A Fistful of Dollars. Released in 1964, this 'spaghetti western' is, simply put, a classic. Previously released on Blu-ray in the Man With No Name Trilogy, Fistful is now available as a standalone Blu-ray release.

In 1976, Clint Eastwood starred and directed in one of his most prolific roles with The Outlaw of Josey Wales. A Missouri farmer just looking to live in peace and provide for his family is turned into a revenge-seeking killer after a group of Kansas Redlegs kill his wife and son, burn down his house, and leave him for dead.Warner released a Blu-ray Book of the movie just last week which makes for a perfect Father's Day gift, not to mention a perfect addition to anyone's Blu-ray collection.

Rio Lobo, one of many John Wayne classics, is finally coming to Blu-ray on May 31st. Earlier I reviewed Big Jake, also coming out on the 31st. Rio Lobo was actually filmed one year before Big Jake and actor Christopher Mitchum stars alongside Wayne in both. Let's take a ride to Rio Lobo, shall we?

John Wayne's 1969 True Grit is arguably one of his most popular films. He reprises one of his former roles as the ornery Rooster Cogburn and helps out a young girl who is trying to track down the murderer of her father. A novel, a John Wayne film, and now a remake starring Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, True Grit as directed by Ethan and Joel Coen is headed to Blu-ray very soon. Does this one deserve a spot in your library?
