When this film arrived in 2001 it was ahead of its time. No, I'm not saying that because the plot was some over complicated Shakespearean creation where dogs and cats were portrayed perfectly. At the time the digital achievements of the film surpassed many other films similar to it.
Added to this was an all-star cast of voices and some really good family comedy.

When we get in kid movies I usually use the same three reviewers to help me out; Natalie, Sara and Mallory.
Unlike many reviewers out there, I believe that if you've got amovie geared towards kids you really need to find out how much kids love it.
For example, Coraline was a HUGE hit in the household. That Blu-ray was worn down to the point where it didn't want to play anymore. I'm talking about nearly 100 viewings of that since September 2009. Nuts? Yes. Kids loved it? You bet. Good review? Yes. Why? Because the kids loved it. As a 30+ year old adult it would be rude and wrong to solely judge a kid's movie on my taste. As a reviewing, I'm jaded and bitter (just kidding); what do I know about kid movies? I know a lot about proper production values, but seeing how the kids react to the film (three very different kids) is something a reviewer of my age simply cannot rival.
So, let's begin.

When it comes to the human journey there is no other director/writer that catches the essence quite so perfectly as Wes Anderson.
Anderson pondered childhood through Rushmore, adulthood in The Royal Tenenbaums and now he captures..... foxhood?

Studio Ghibli and Disney have made a career out of bringing the best anime to America. Miyazaki is widely known as one of the most creative minds in the animated business and he has produced some of the most memorable movies to date. From Princess Mononoke to Kiki's Delivery Service to the more recent Spirited Away; this man can do no wrong.
So the question is, can he keep the streak alive with Ponyo? Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, Miyazaki attempts to bring his own version of the story to life on Blu-ray/DVD.
