If Pushmo is Crack, Crashmo is Cocaine (both are highly addictive and very similar but are used in a different way).

In this remake of the classic NES title, Intelligent Systems seeks to successfully integrate the spirit of the original with nearly twenty years of subsequent gameplay refinements.  Fortunately, what they've come up with is enough to please nearly any tactics fan.

It’s time to roll out the tanks and conquer your opponents again in this latest installment of Advance Wars. But don’t expect more of the same (at least in terms of presentation). This time around, all of the old cast has been dropped, the visuals have been enhanced and the game’s story has become much more serious. Long gone is the light hearted nature of the older games and instead, Intelligent Systems has attempted to create a better, more involved (yet none less fantastical) story.

Fire Emblem is one of those franchises that was popular in Japan long before it ever hit Western shores. One reason for that is probably that it’s such a challenging game (if you’re familiar with the series, you are well aware of the once-they’re-dead-they’re-gone game design). But nevertheless, several years ago, we saw the very first Fire Emblem hit American store shelves, and since, the franchise has managed to maintain a respectable cult following of hardcore strategy enthusiasts. While it makes for a perfect portable franchise, the first American console-based entry in the franchise arrived on the GameCube a couple years ago, and although it didn’t set any new standards within the genre, it carried the torch forward.

Although it’s difficult to choose, I would have to say that Intelligent Systems is one of my favorite development groups. It seems as though nearly everything that comes out of them is either pleasantly unique or highly polished (or both). Their diverse selection of franchises includes Metroid, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, WarioWare, and, of course, the Paper Mario series.
