I remember getting my copy of EGM in 1990 and read a wonderful article about the upcoming Strider game for my Sega Genesis. It was a game changer for the system (at least for me), something that would help forge Sega ahead of its rival Nintendo (at least for me — Sonic was a huge reason for Sega jumping ahead of Nintendo). It was one of the best experiences I had with a game when I was younger.
So, you’ll find it less than surprising that when I heard that Capcom was reviving the game for this latest generation of consoles, I couldn’t help but feel excited about the possibilities. Was it going to be a remake like Bionic Commando? Were they simply going to update everything and keep the story we all know and love? What was happening with this title and how would Double Helix honor the original Strider’s memory? The game arrived and all of these questions were answered.
Well, at least they kept the communists…sorta.
Let’s get right into it.
