SQUARE ENIX ANNOUNCES ORDER OF WAR, A NEW WESTERN-DEVELOPED WWII REAL-TIME STRATEGY GAME LOS ANGELES (April 16, 2009) – Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix® interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today a new agreement with strategy game specialist Wargaming.net to publish a brand new IP set during World War II. ORDER OF WAR™ will be released on Windows PC across all North American territories in Fall 2009. ORDER OF WAR will feature massive-scale battles brought to life with a cinematic intensity never seen before in a WWII strategy game. Players will take command of an entire army including ground troops, artillery, tank divisions and aircraft in all-out strategic assaults. The single-player mode can be played out in two campaigns – American versus German forces on the western front and German versus Russian on the eastern front. Maybe you've already got the "defensive simulation" game for your iPhone, or maybe you don't. Either way, Crystal Defenders looks like one addictive game, and now you can score it for Live Arcade. It's essentially the same game, except: The Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 version includes several improvements to the interface and a new design optimized for consoles. A worldwide ranking system allows players to upload their scores to leaderboards and see how they stack up against other players around the globe. These and other new features are sure to increase excitement and enhance replayability. Meanwhile, iPhone owners of the title can look forward to a significant update (free) in the coming weeks. Crystal Defenders is basically a simplified version of the Final Fantasy Tactics formula, and it even makes use of the same job classes and characters (nevermind that it's also set in the exact same world). Although it's also out for WiiWare in Japan, we haven't seen it here in the states yet on the Wii Shop Channel. Last November we saw The Last Remnant on Xbox 360, but the Windows version promises even more features.  It'll be available March 24, or available for download via Steam on April 9 thanks to Square's new agreement with Valve (announced today). Here's the good stuff from the press release: New features not included in the original Xbox 360® release version include:- Ability to form unions with multiple leader units- Autosave and normal save functions available between consecutive battles- Graphical weapon previews assist players with weapon selection- New allied characters to aide players in battle- Improved character animations- Increased speed of gameplay in battle sequences Plus, you get the ability to choose between Japanese and English voiceovers (in case you're one of those anime nerds... oh wait) Full press release inside.
