Films of this nature have a certain place among the pack, particularly in this genre. To be brutally honest, I don't think this should be looked on at higher regard than other b-movie stuff from this time. I will admit this is much better in comparison to most of those pictures. But it skirts close to those, and just doesn't have the "chops" to be taken seriously. A well written script...
I wonder how many folks have been "howling" for this to appear on Blu-ray? Shout! Factory appeases those with this release directed by Joe Dante and starring Dee Wallace and Patrick Macnee. And though I would describe this as just a cut above most cheesy horror entries, the real draw to this new printing is the lengthy extras section.
This displays why downloadable services like XBLA exist. Clearly, Techland had some ideas for a new installment in a series, but weren't enough to warrant a disc release. So instead of creating a bunch of nonsense to constitute a full $60 release, they worked things down and made an abbreviated experience for a lower price. Playing the game is a blast, as the whole "desperado" feeling comes through in spades. Story...
You know what they say, shoot first and, uh, shoot again! Ubisoft and Techland ride together to bring the latest installment into the Juarez series available for download through the LIVE Arcade. And although the experience is a bit linear, the gameplay is spot on, the action is furious, and the "alternative" modes make revisiting this "old west" retreat a pleasant trip.
After a nice, long day on the course, I'm quite happy with this offering. The most important part of any sports game is how it "feels" to play. Everything else is secondary. I haven't been pleased with the PGA TOUR gameplay for a few years now, but I'm back on board with 14. That sense of needing to gather info about your surroundings (wind direction/speed, lie, slope, ect.) before "taking a...
This is a really solid film, particularly for its time. How much of this "true story" is rooted in truth is debatable. But I get the sense they captured the "essence" of the peril and danger those brave POWs stood up against decades ago. The captivating narrative gives way to knockout performances from an unbelievably deep cast. The work done on this disc's presentation is stellar and it was great to...
Sound the alarm... the HD alarm that is! From MGM comes a 1960s classic with an incredible cast headed by Steve McQueen and James Garner, directed by John Sturges. Based on true events, this tells the incredible story of Allied POWs with a knack for "flying the coup" that are luckily assigned to the same imprisonment. A fantastic story, great acting, above average HD conversion, and descriptive extras create a very...
This is a fun, entertaining movie. The early bits set itself up to be really entrenched with suspense and mystery. But it becomes clear that "truth and justice" is the reason for Jack Reacher's effect. The action sequences work for the tone of the film, and don't try too hard to frivolously impress. Cruise shines upon the narrative's pedestal, and everyone else (Jenkins, Pike, Courteny, ect.) turn in solid work in...
Reach out and shift into high-def high gear! From Paramount comes the Blu-ray release of an action adaptation from a novel in Lee Child's book series based on the title character written/directed by Christopher McQuarrie, starring Tom Cruise and Rosamund Pike. Cruise shines in the fightin'/shootin'/drivin' portions of the film, but the "mystery" portion of the program does eventually run a bit dry.
